VET in Schools 2026 Overview
VET in Schools 2026 Eligibility
VET in Schools (VETiS) 2026 is a Queensland Government initiative funded by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET) that gives eligible secondary school students access to fee-free vocational education and training while still at school.
VETiS allows students to gain nationally recognised qualifications, develop practical industry skills, and explore future career pathways before they graduate — providing a valuable head start toward employment, further study, or an apprenticeship or traineeship.
Available Training Pathways
1. General Training Pathway
Students can complete one funded Certificate I or II qualification (and in some cases selected Certificate III qualifications) while enrolled at school.
This pathway allows students to:
Build practical, job-ready skills
Explore future career opportunities
Gain nationally recognised qualifications
Strengthen pathways into employment or further training
2. School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SAT) Pathway
Students can combine paid work with formal training while completing school.
This pathway includes:
Structured workplace learning with an employer
Completion of a nationally recognised qualification
Real industry experience while finishing secondary school
A direct pathway into ongoing employment or post-school training
How Many Funded Training Places Can Students Access?
A student in Year 10, 11 and 12 can undertake:
one funded certificate I or II
one funded school-based apprenticeship or traineeship
qualifications will not be funded at the same time
qualifications can be completed one after the other
Fee-Free Training for Eligible Students
VETiS funding covers the full cost of eligible training, meaning students do not pay tuition fees for approved qualifications delivered under the program.
This removes financial barriers and allows students to focus on building practical skills and achieving a nationally recognised qualification while still at school.
Your Benefit
Through VETiS, students can gain practical skills, industry experience, and nationally recognised qualifications that support future success.
By starting early, students can:
Improve employment opportunities after school
Explore career pathways with confidence
Gain valuable hands-on learning experience
Build clear pathways into apprenticeships, traineeships, or further study
