Career Start is a Queensland Government initiative, funded by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET)
Helps you gain the skills you need to start or advance your career. It provides financial support for training, so you can reduce your upfront costs and become job-ready.
Two Training Pathways
General Training Pathway
Complete a Certificate III or lower-level qualification without an apprenticeship or traineeship.
Gain practical skills that prepare you for in-demand jobs across different industries.
Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway
Combine on-the-job training with a formal qualification (Certificate II or III).
Must be completed as part of an apprenticeship or traineeship, including school based options.
How many training places can you access?
You may access up to two funded training places through one of the following options:
One Certificate III qualification under the General Training Pathway and one Apprenticeship or Traineeship Pathway.
If you complete the Apprenticeship/Traineeship Pathway first, you cannot access a General Training qualification afterwards.
Two apprenticeships or traineeships at Certificate II or III level, including school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.
Your Benefit
Get the skills you need at a reduced cost with Career Start. The Queensland Government covers most of your course fees, leaving you to pay only a small co-contribution fee. This makes it easier and more affordable to earn a qualification, build job-ready skills, and take the next step in your career.
You might also be eligible for a higher subsidy in the form of a partial or full fee exemption if you have concessional student status or if you qualify under a different initiative (such as School-based Apprenticeships or Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s).
